It is obtained by cold pressing from ripe seeds of two varieties: sweet almond (Prunus amygdalus var. dulcis) and bitter almond (Prunus amygdalus var. amara). They differ in their amygdalin content, which is responsible for the bitter taste and toxicity. Bitter almonds contain up to 85%, while sweet almonds contain only about 0.1%.CAVEAT: Unless explicitly declared as "Sweet Almond Oil", almond oil should not be ingested or used in childcare! As a precautionary measure, it should ideally not be used for skin care at all.Sweet almond oil is one of the most valuable oils in skin care. 80% oleic acid provides a lovely, soft skin feeling. The oil has an anti-irritant, nourishing and protective effect and helps especially dry skin that tends to brittleness, flaking and itching. Almond oil is very well tolerated, especially by sensitive skin. Therefore, it is also wonderfully suitable for baby care.
